Course Description: Explores strategies to support children in developing the social and emotional tools needed to regulate their own behavior, exhibit prosocial behavior, and master social skills. Focuses on creating equitable learning environments that support students’ personal and collective well-being. Emphasis on social and emotional strategies to support teacher wellness. Examines Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) framework for K-12 in Oregon.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Develop activities that promote children’s self-awareness and identity.
- CLO#2: Analyze social and emotional strategies that foster student independence.
- CLO#3: Determine strategies to support children’s establishment and maintenance of healthy, supportive relationships in diverse settings. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#4: Design strength-based, individual supports to address specific children’s social and emotional skills and needs.
- CLO#5: Devise a plan to improve teacher’s own social and emotional competence to create a positive environment with children through modeling and coaching.
