ECE 244 - Observation and Assessment 3 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
WR 115 or WR 114 - Expository Writing in Spanish, or designated placement,
WR 115Q as required, and
ECE 161 or ECE 163 or ED 225 or permission of Instructor
Course Description: Focuses on the use of observation as a tool for discovering children’s interests, assessing development and behavior, and planning responsive curriculum. Observations in community early childhood or elementary settings are required.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Observe and assess children’s development in cognition, creativity, social-emotional skills, literacy, language, and parent-child interactions.
- CLO#2: Analyze observations from a developmental perspective to gain insight into children’s thinking and behavior. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#3: Use observations to adapt the learning environment and curriculum to support each child’s needs.
- CLO#4: Explain when and how to refer a child for further evaluation.
