WR 115 or WR 114 - Expository Writing in Spanish, or designated placement,
WR 115Q as required, and
ECE 125 or ECE 161 or ECE 163 or ED 225 or permission of Instructor.
Course Description: Explores the role of the adult in helping children understand and embrace diversity. Examines current practices to promote an inclusive community in the classroom and beyond where individuals uphold values of equity, inclusion, and social justice. Emphasizes the important role of families as partners in supporting children’s development of these skills.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Explain anti-bias education and its goals for both children and adults.
- CLO#2: Analyze how stereotypes and societal prejudices have advantaged or disadvantaged oneself and others. (ILO: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Global Consciousness)
- CLO#3: Assess a learning environment for the extent to which it is inclusive, safe, and supportive for all children and their families.
- CLO#4: Design learning activities that support children’s understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion.
- CLO#5: Develop strategies to help children build skills and language that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
