Associate of Arts Transfer

About the Program

A Major Transfer Map Curriculum and Articulation Policy (MTM CAP) is for students transferring from a participating Oregon community college to any participating Oregon university who know which major/bachelor’s degree program they want to pursue. The MTM CAPs identify the optimal and specific set of lower division courses students must take to transfer efficiently into the major at the university.  The successful completion of the major transfer map allows students to receive the number of academic credits referenced in this MTM CAP, and comparable standing to the status of students with the same number of academic credits in the major course of study who began their postsecondary studies at the public university.  MTM CAPs must include at least 30-credits of general education defined by the Core Transfer Map (CTM). MTM CAPs may choose to specify relevant or required General Education courses as part of the 30-credit CTM component of the MTM CAP. Receiving institutions will not require students to retake a course if the minimum grade requirements, specified in this agreement, have been met.

If students complete a Major Transfer Map and meet public university admissions requirements, they are guaranteed transfer to a participating Oregon four-year public university with junior standing, and their coursework will count toward a bachelor’s degree in that specific major. On this page, educators and partners can find the current list of approved MTMs, as well as information guiding the ongoing implementation of MTMs in Oregon.

For additional information, refer to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission Transfer Map website.

Program Learning Outcomes

The curriculum in RCC courses is derived from a set of identified learning outcomes that are relevant to the discipline. Upon completion of the AAT in English, students will be able to:

Demonstrate understanding of literary works in context, including the ways texts engage notions of genre, culture, history, class, race, gender, and/or sexuality.

Use a variety of written, verbal, and/or multimedia forms to respond to, analyze, and/or produce texts.

Entry Requirements

Students are required to complete the Placement Process to determine skill level and readiness in math, reading, and writing. As part of their training program, students must begin with the courses within their skill level as determined through the Placement Process.

Advanced Standing

Coursework from accredited colleges and universities will be accepted in accordance with college policies and the Humanities Department Chair approval. In order to ensure coursework is current, program courses over 10 years old must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate department chair before being accepted toward course requirements.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 90 term credits of lower division collegiate courses with a minimum grade of “C-” or better. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 at the time the English Associate of Arts Transfer is awarded. Students should also refer to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission Transfer Map website for additional course GPA requirements that may be applicable at their transfer institution.
