Course Description: ENG261 provides a survey of important works of science fiction by writers from different cultures and time periods. The course is designed to foster thoughtful interpretation, analysis, and appreciation of fiction and science.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Analyze common writing elements within the science fiction genre, including point of view, plot, setting, characterization, tone, style, theme, and symbolism. (ILO: Communication)
- CLO#2: Understand and be able to explain the scientific elements in works of science fiction by focusing on the science, technology, and implications of such on humanity. (ILO: Communication)
- CLO#3: Understand and be able to explain the ways in which science, technology, governmental systems, gender, race, and culture shape the literature of science fiction. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
Length of Course: A required State minimum of (40) and a standard RCC delivery of (44) lecture hours per term, not to exceed (48) hours per term.
