Course Description: Explores historical milestones for inclusion and accessibility in Education. Examines best practices to facilitate inclusion and learning for children with diverse developmental needs. Includes targeted embedded opportunities, environmental and curricular adaptations, and specialized instructional strategies. Special focus on the family experience and working as a team to support children with diverse developmental needs.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Identify historical societal milestones that impact current diversity and inclusion practices in education. (ILO: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Global Consciousness)
- CLO#2: Describe the purpose and components of the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP).
- CLO#3: Define roles and responsibilities of family, child, teacher, and specialists on the team to support children with diverse developmental needs.
- CLO#4: Develop embedded opportunities for targeted learning in daily routines, environments, and activities.
- CLO#5: Identify specific strategies to support common developmental needs in the social, emotional, cognitive, and communication domains.
