MT 122 - Special Populations 1 Credit(s)

Course Description: Special Populations Massage introduces students to trauma-informed care, focusing on how trauma impacts the body. Students will learn techniques to effectively work with diverse populations who have experienced traumatic events, elderly, trauma informed, chronically ill, terminally ill, oncology clients and special needs.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Identify physical and psychological benefits of massage for special populations (elderly, trauma impacted, chronically ill, terminally ill, and oncology clients).
- CLO#2: Utilize effective communication skills when working with special populations. (ILO: Communication)
- CLO#3: Use special considerations when providing massage for special populations.
Typical Required and Recommended Equipment and Materials: Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring two sheets, a pillowcase, a clean-up towel, an oil holster, socks/slippers, and a swimsuit or clean undergarments to each class.
