PE 185FT - Functional Fitness and TRX 1 Credit(s)
Course Description: Provides students the opportunity to participate in effective and efficient workouts using TRX bands and various other individual and group exercise activities/equipment to teach functional fitness. Classes will focus on all major muscle groups with an emphasis on core engagement. Each class will begin with a dynamic warm up for the entire body, followed by 40-55 minutes of exercises that promote strength in functional movement. This can include TRX bands, weights, steps, medicine balls, resistance bands/loops, stability balls etc. Each class will end with a gentle cool down focusing on static stretching. Classes will also include discussions about health and wellness, proper form and muscle engagement, major muscle groups, proper breathing, and injury prevention. Course is repeatable.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Participate in exercises using a variety of fitness styles.
- CLO#2: Demonstrate progress in one of the following categories: (a) greater flexibility, (b) increased cardio-respiratory endurance, (c) improved lung capacity, (d) reduced fat percentage and/or measurements, and (e) increased muscle strength and endurance.
- CLO#3: Utilize proper stretching, warm-up, and cool-down techniques to prevent injury and promote recovery. (ILO: Critical Thinking)

Length of Course: A required state minimum of (30) and a standard RCC delivery of (33) lab (physical education activity course) hours per term, not to exceed (36) hours per term.
