MT 103 - Massage III

Course Description: Prepares students for the written examination for state board licensure and practical demonstration interviews. Reflexology, side lying massage, massage tools, trigger point, deep tissue, and myofascial release techniques will be covered.

Course Learning Outcomes:
 

  • CLO#1: Apply different massage techniques based on a client’s medical history and physical condition, including posture, symmetry, compensatory movement patterns, range of motion, and palpation findings.
  • CLO#2: Use effective listening and communication skills to build rapport, gather health history and client preferences, explain treatment options, and establish informed consent.
  • CLO#3: Optimize treatment protocols for short- and long-term goals, adjusting plans based on changes in client’s health and desired outcomes utilizing a variety of modalities to meet the client’s needs (Swedish massage; massage tools; reflexology; deep tissue; myofascial release proprioceptive neuromuscular techniques/muscle energy techniques; trigger point therapy and stretching.)   • CLO#4: Apply techniques along the muscles and fascial lines without excessive discomfort, ensuring client safety through communication and taking caution in endangerment areas.
  • CLO#5: Apply current information and research to determine safe massage and bodywork treatment options for pathologies commonly encountered in the practice of massage and bodywork. Identify pain patterns, pain pathways and relevant pain control practices as they relate to application of massage/bodywork.
  • CLO#6: Identify the components of a wellness plan and psychological defense mechanisms.
