3 Credit(s)

Prerequisite(s):

MTH 60  or MTH 102CT  or higher-level math

Course Description: Introduces the fundamentals of AC/DC electrical systems used for power and control in the manufacturing industry as well as commercial, agricultural and residential applications. Students learn industry-relevant skills included in subject areas such as basic electrical circuits, electrical measurement, circuit analysis, inductance and capacitance, combination circuits, and transformers. Topics covered in subject areas will include but not be limited to: safety, electrical components and wiring, electronic test instruments, tools and fasteners, electrical units and nomenclature, and parallel / series-parallel circuits.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1: Apply AC/DC electrical terminology and theory to voltage, current, and resistance in series and parallel circuits. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
  • CLO#2: Demonstrate proper operation of electrical components and test equipment including analog meters, digital multi meters (DMMs) and DC power supplies.
  • CLO#3: Design a circuit and apply the function to a real-world scenario
  • CLO#4: Demonstrate safe and proper shop practices.
