Course Description: Examines strategies to support social and emotional development in all settings with young children. Explores obstacles children face in developing self-regulation skills and strategies to help them overcome these obstacles. Analyzes common tools and models used to promote early social and emotional development. Emphasizes utilizing observation to assess children’s needs, practicing positive guidance strategies, partnering with families, and proactively teaching social and emotional skills and expectations.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Assess the factors that influence a child’s ability to develop positive social and emotional skills.
- CLO#2: Analyze common models and tools used in the early childhood community to promote successful social and emotional development.
- CLO#3: Examine the benefits and practices of partnering with families to support children’s positive social and emotional development. (ILO: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Global Consciousness)
- CLO#4: Develop a concrete plan of support for individual children needing additional help with social and emotional skills.
