ED 256 - Elementary Curriculum Design

Course Description: Examines curriculum design that incorporates multiple subject areas and reflects developmentally appropriate teaching strategies. Explores culturally relevant curriculum that promotes an inclusive learning community. Emphasizes the role of the teacher in supporting a playful mindset in the classroom community. Utilizes Oregon content standards and principles of backward design.

Course Learning Outcomes:
 

  • CLO#1: Articulate a variety of developmentally appropriate teaching/learning approaches for elementary school-age children.
  • CLO#2: Develop appropriate strategies to build a positive classroom community.
  • CLO#3: Evaluate curricula resources to determine if they are developmentally appropriate and support child construction of knowledge. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
  • CLO#4: Create meaningful curricula that meets state standards and supports play-based activities for children in grades K-5.
