Course Description: Studies the branch of physiology that relates to the mechanics and anatomy of human movement. Students will learn the joints of the lower body and their actions, the muscles that create specific actions, muscle attachment sites, how to palpate, shorten, and lengthen the muscles.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Identify the major components of the musculoskeletal system of the lower body: bones; muscle attachment sites; origin; insertion and belly of the muscles; planes; axis of movements and actions of the joints. (ILO: Communication)
- CLO#2: Define physiological concepts of muscle contraction and compare different types of muscle contractions and their functional uses.
- CLO#3: Classify lower body joints by function and structure with knowledge of type and location.
- CLO#4: Identify the components of posture of the lumbo-thoracic region; pelvis and lower extremities; cervical and thoracic spine.
- CLO#5: Perform physical assessment (ROM and muscle testing of the lower body).
