MT 118 - Deep Tissue Massage

Course Description: Provides knowledge and hands-on instruction in the theory of deep tissue massage, reviews anatomy of muscles and relevant structures, and treatment plans for pain symptoms throughout the body. Deep tissue massage can provide instant results for patients suffering with pain due to musculoskeletal dysfunction. Hands on practice will be included.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1: Identify the major components of the musculoskeletal system including origin, insertion and action of muscles. (ILO: Communication)
  • CLO#2: Identify pain patterns and why they might occur.
  • CLO#3: Discuss the difference between deep pressure versus profound effect on tissue. 

Typical Required and Recommended Equipment and Materials: Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring two sheets, a pillowcase, oil holster, and a swimsuit or shorts and tank top to each class.
