MFG 121 - Machine Tool - Lathe I 4 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
MTH 60 or MTH 102CT or designated placement, and MFG 102 and MFG 116
Course Description: First of a two-term series designed to develop both an understanding of manufacturing concerns and limitations of the engine lathe as well as developing the hands-on skills needed for machining jobs in manufacturing. This course covers basic manufacturing skills and machine tooling practices. Emphasizes safety, bench work, engine lathes, precision grinding, tool room operations, and production work through a series of projects.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Demonstrate safe and proper usage of manual lathe turning.
- CLO#2: Accurately turn diameters and shoulders.
- CLO#3: Accurately calculate thread pitch designations.
- CLO#4: Manufacture a machinist hammer based on a blue print. (ILO: Quantitative Literacy and Reasoning)
