MFG 102 - Machine Shop Basics

Prerequisite(s):  

MTH 20  or designated placement.

Course Description: This course is designed to introduce learners to the world of machining and gain basic skills for entry-level industry jobs. Students will develop an understanding of both hand and power tool usage as it pertains to Manufacturing. This course covers safety, fasteners, measurement, hand tools, basic bench work, hand-held power tools, vertical and horizontal band saw, and drill press. Course will be delivered through hands-on instruction emphasizing safety and proper operation through a series of projects.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1: Demonstrate safety when using hand and power tools.
  • CLO#2: Demonstrate proper planning and layout before operation of hand and power tool usage(ILO: Critical Thinking)
  • CLO#3: Produce a functional bolt thread checker and punch.

Typical Required and Recommended Equipment and Materials: One pair of safety glasses or safety side shields if you wear prescription glasses.
