DH 106L - Dental Emergency Management Lab 1 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s): Successful admittance to a Dental program.
Corequisite(s): DH 106
Course Description: Covers routine preparedness for dental team members through hands-on scenario-based activities: the dental assistant’s role in emergency care, managing a dental office emergency kit, the ABC’s of CPR (airway/breathing/circulation), foreign body airway obstruction, the causes, signs, and treatment of medical emergencies, and specific dental emergencies. Course is dual numbered as DA 106L .
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Obtain vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.
- CLO#2: Explain strategies used by dental office staff to prevent medical emergencies. (ILO: Information Literacy)
- CLO#3: Identify possible emergency situations in the dental office and actions for prevention and discern the duties of different office personnel in an emergency.
- CLO#4: Demonstrate possible emergency situations in the dental office and actions for prevention and discern the duties of different office personnel in an emergency.
