PE 185AC - Aquatic Core Fitness

Course Description: Fosters the development of cardiovascular health, increased strength, and flexibility through aquatic exercises at the community YMCA pool. The course is a low to medium intensity workout in the shallow portion of the pool that emphasizes core fitness, focusing on the abdominal muscles and other gross muscles of the body, particularly the “glute” muscles, hamstrings, quadriceps and back muscles. Students set individual goals for aquatic fitness and strive to attain these improvement goals over the course of the term. Course is repeatable.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  • CLO#1: Participate in aquatic exercise routines to improve fitness level.
  • CLO#2: Demonstrate improvement of muscles used in aquatics: abdominals, glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps and back muscles.
  • CLO#3: Demonstrate greater muscle coordination in an aquatic environment. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
