ED 220 - Introduction to CTE in Oregon 3 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
Self placement at WR 115 or above.
Course Description: This course provides an introduction to career and technical education. Includes the historical context of legislative development of career and technical education programs. Explores Federal and Oregon requirements for approved programs of study, funding mechanisms, integration of CTSOs, inclusion of industry and workforce development partners, and curricular development specific to CTE. Surveys current trends and challenges in CTE education. This course supports teacher licensure or endorsement requirements for CTE educators.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Develop an awareness of the ethics, responsibilities and professional practices required of CTE educators such as student confidentiality, mandatory reporting, licensure, and model core teaching standards as well as elements specific to CTE content areas (budgeting, industry and postsecondary partnerships, program of study development, etc.) (ILO: Information Literacy)
- CLO#2: Demonstrate understanding of the intended premise for career and technical educators as defined by the Carl D. Perkins Act of 2018 and its implementation in Oregon, including providing equitable access to all students. (ILO: Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Global Consciousness)
- CLO#3: Evaluate and apply the quality indicators for CTE programs of study and teacher practices that support quality teaching and learning.

Length of Course: A required state minimum of 30 and a standard RCC delivery of 33 lecture hours per term, not to exceed 36 hours per term.
