PE 185WL - Walking for a Healthy Lifestyle

Course Description: Students will learn how walking benefits the entire body by including discussions on mental health, social health, proprioception, and physical health. The atmosphere will be positive and motivating to help promote and model a healthy lifestyle. Focuses on 3 main components: 1) Body alignment and physiology of walking and jogging; 2) Pre and Post assessments for physical fitness; 3) Utilizing walking as a strategy to manage stress and anxiety. Helps students to build a strong foundation to begin or maintain their own cardio fitness program. This course, while focusing on walking and jogging for cardiovascular health, will also incorporate various aspects to allow students to develop physically, emotionally, and intellectually. Course is repeatable.

Course Learning Outcomes:
  • CLO#1: Apply principles of body alignment and knowledge of physiology while walking or jogging.
  • CLO#2: Interpret and analyze individual fitness assessment results based on pre- and post- assessment measurements. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
  • CLO#3: Design a 2/3 mile walking and jogging route in collaboration with other students.
  • CLO#4: Design a personal stress management plan based on current stress levels.
