DH 260 - Dental Anesthesia - Analgesia 3 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
Successful completion of the first three terms of the Dental Hygiene program.
Course Description: Introduces the anatomy of the nerves involved in dental anesthesia. Reviews the pharmacology and physiology of local anesthetic agents, including effective delivery techniques in the oral cavity.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1 Discuss and explain the evolution of anesthesia, including the historical perspective.
- CLO#2 Describe and diagram the recovery process following nitrous oxide sedation.
- CLO#3 Evaluate and discuss the analgesic property and each component in the nitrous oxide sedation delivery system.
- CLO#4 Discuss and categorize the structure and classification of neurons and differentiate between afferent and efferent nerves.
- CLO#5 Discuss the special considerations, symptoms, and reaction with topical anesthetics in dentistry. (ILO: Communication)
- CLO#6 Recognize and describe the landmarks that are relevant to the administration of local anesthesia.
