DH 250 - Restorative Dentistry I 3 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
Successful completion of the first three terms of the Dental Hygiene program.
Course Description: Introduces students to restorative techniques with emphasis on tooth anatomy, moisture control with rubber dam isolation, placement of amalgam restorations, and matrix and wedge placement. Includes the etiology of decay and cariology, restoration preparation and caries classification, and the properties of amalgam. The occlusal relationship will be covered, and its importance in restoration placement.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1 Categorize properties and usage of dental materials.
- CLO#2 Recognize and evaluate requirements of a cavity liner or base.
- CLO#3 Review and evaluate the dental anatomy and morphology of the teeth.
- CLO#4 Identify and appraise procedures for the fabrication of a temporary crown. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#5 Conclude which steps are required for an extraoral photograph and its use in a treatment plan.
