DH 241 - Research and Issues in Oral Health

Prerequisite(s):  

Successful completion of the first five terms of the Dental Hygiene program.

Course Description: Explores the role and scope of research in dental hygiene. Introduces basic strategies, methodologies, and the types of research and topics include barriers to effective research; identifying appropriate sources of information for a given task; evaluating information for a given purpose; recognizing misinformation. Thoughtful analysis of current health research is included.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1 Define the academic research process and explain the concepts of information literacy. 
  • CLO#2 Apply the results of the appraisal or evidence in clinical health practice.
  • CLO#3 Critically appraise current health research evidence for its vitality and usefulness. (ILO: Communication)
