DH 205 - Dental Infection Control

Prerequisite(s): Successful admittance to a Dental program.

Corequisite(s): DH 205L  

Course Description: Foundational concepts of infection control, standard precautions, hand hygiene practices, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, proper sterilization and disinfection techniques, sharps safety, respiratory hygiene, environmental cleaning protocols, dental unit water quality management, and compliance with relevant regulations, all tailored to the dental practice setting. Course is dual-numbered as DA 202 .

Course Learning Outcomes:
  • CLO#1: Describe infectious diseases and their relationship to dental patient and workplace safety.
  • CLO#2: Identify regulatory agencies that oversee workplace and safety standards. (ILO: Critical Thinking).
  • CLO#3: Describe waste management using green technology to include water line maintenance and hazardous waste disposal.
  • CLO#4: Describe standards and guidelines of occupational safety and infection control for dental personnel.
