DH 103L - Dental Hygiene Practice III

Prerequisite(s):  

Successful completion of first two (2) terms of the Dental Hygiene program.

Course Description: Advanced clinical procedures utilizing scaling and polishing techniques, oral inspection, cancer screening, dental and periodontal charting.  Principles of ultrasonic scaling, plaque control instruction and fluoride applications.  Advanced periodontal therapeutic treatment implementation of radiographic findings and medicament use.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1 Recognize and outline the relationship between periodontal disease and systemic health.
  • CLO#2 Identify and report periodontal diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. (ILO: Communication)
  • CLO#3 Demonstrate preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene procedures.
  • CLO#4 Develop and employ clinical skills to practice dental hygiene to the level of the “Standard of Care.”
