DH 102 - Dental Hygiene Theory II

Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of the first term of a Dental program.

Course Description: Introduces dental hygiene assessment, diagnosis and treatment plans. Students will use critical thinking skills to gather health facts, document findings, assess oral health risks, and propose care plans.

Course Learning Outcomes:
 

  • CLO#1: Describe the legal standards that govern the practice of dental hygiene.
  • CLO#2: Analyze the terminology used in the dental hygiene profession.
  • CLO#3: Compare and contrast the various applications of evidence-based research and the strategies for implementing these findings in a real-world context. 
  • CLO#4: Describe Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and the dental hygienist’s role in promoting the patient’s whole-body health.
  • CLO#5: Demonstrate therapeutic communication techniques. (ILO: Communication)
