MUS 210 - Music in World Cultures

Course Description: Introduces music from various cultures with an international and cross-cultural perspective. Explores both commonalities and differences in how music is defined, valued, and utilized in many cultures around the world. Fulfills cultural literacy requirement within the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. Formerly offered as MUS108.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1: Identify various musical styles and their cultural origins, evaluating commonalities within genres. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
  • CLO#2: Explain musical terms and their applications.
  • CLO#3: Describe the variety of musical styles and performances.
  • CLO#4: Analyze musical characteristics across cultures to evaluate diverse styles and practices.
