MET 122 - CAD II Mechanical SolidWorks

MET 121  or Instructor approval

Course Description: Second in a three-term series, this course continues with the basic concepts of computer aided design (CAD) and drafting. Course studies will be completed using SolidWorks CAD software. Studies include set-up workspace, sketches, features and drawings. Working in both two- and three dimensions as well as in solids, students will learn the operating system, command codes, file menu, and symbol library of an industry standard, computer aided design and drafting system. Focus will be on sheet metal, weldments, and gears and gear-mates as used in manufacturing.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1: Apply ASME Y14 standards in the preparation of technical mechanical drawings.
  • CLO#2: Analyze and adapt top down design techniques.
  • CLO#3: Identify modeling tools to produce sheet metal products.
  • CLO#4: Determine  solutions to design errors in sketches and parts. (ILO: Critical Thinking)

Typical Required and Recommended Equipment and Materials: USB Flash drive, 8 Gig recommended. Students enrolled in this course will be given instructions to download the basic student version of SolidWorks software for use at home.
