DH 270 - Periodontology I 2 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
Successful completion of the first three terms of the Dental Hygiene program.
Course Description: Introduction of the scientific study of the structures and function of the periodontium in both health and disease, the etiology and principles of periodontal diseases, examination procedures, treatment, and preventative measures.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1 Define and inspect periodontium; identify its main components.
- CLO#2 Outline and inventory the etiology of periodontal disease.
- CLO#3 Discuss and analyze the salivary acquired pellicle and its relationship and role to periodontium and periodontal disease. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#4 Describe and discuss dental deposits and their role in periodontal disease.
- CLO#5 Assess the functions and role of periodontal inflammation in periodontal health and disease.
- CLO#6 Classify periodontal disease and differentiate between the various classes.
