DH 203L - Dental Hygiene Practice VI

Prerequisite(s):  

Successful completion of the first five terms of the Dental Hygiene program.

Course Description: Advanced clinical procedures utilizing scaling and polishing techniques, oral inspection, cancer screening, dental and periodontal charting principles of ultrasonic scaling, plaque control instruction and fluoride applications.  Advanced periodontal therapeutic treatment and use of radiographic findings, use of local anesthesia/analgesia and medicament use, and approach to restorative dentistry.

Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO#1 Analyze and describe the causes of the progression of periodontal disease.
  • CLO#2 Identify periodontal diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
  • CLO#3 Demonstrate effective preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene. (ILO: Communication)
  • CLO#4 Develop and apply clinical skills to exercise dental hygiene to the level of the “Standard of Care.”
  • CLO#5 Recall and practice use of medicaments.
