DH 202L - Dental Hygiene Practice V 6 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
Successful completion of the first four terms of the Dental Hygiene program.
Course Description: Advanced clinical procedures utilizing scaling and polishing techniques, oral inspection, cancer screening, dental and periodontal charting principles of ultrasonic scaling, plaque control instruction and fluoride applications. Advanced periodontal therapeutic treatment with advanced use of radiographic findings, and use of local anesthesia/analgesia and medicament.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1 Identify and distinguish periodontal abscesses; causes, signs and symptoms, and treatments.
- CLO#2 Explain necrotizing periodontal diseases and identify causes, signs and symptoms, and treatments.
- CLO#3 Demonstrate and evaluate preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene procedures, (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#4 Recognize and apply clinical skills to exercise dental hygiene to the level of the “Standard of Care.”
