DH 202 - Dental Hygiene Theory V 2 Credit(s)
Prerequisite(s):
Successful completion of the first four terms of the Dental Hygiene program.
Course Description: Introduces pain management and control with the use of medicaments, topical and local anesthesia, and nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia. Students will learn the causes of enamel loss and hypersensitivity, in addition to the recommended treatments.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1 Compare and contrast factors involved in caries management. (ILO: Communication)
- CLO#2 Determine and describe the professionally applied fluorides for caries management
- CLO#3 Select and discuss management of dental hypersensitivity.
- CLO#4 Analyze and discuss the chemistry, pharmacology, and physiology of nitrous oxide-oxygen (N2O-O2).
- CLO#5 Define and differentiate the three types of injections: local infiltration, field block, and nerve block.
- CLO#6 Formulate the possible local and systemic complications from local anesthetic administration and explain the proper management.
