Prerequisite(s):
AH 103 , AH 202 , and current AHA CPR/BLS certification.
Course Description: Provides hands-on clinical experience. Students meet during the first one to two weeks in seminar, reviewing institutional expectations, infection control, and healthcare communication. Afterwards, students will be placed in an immersive cooperative work experience with a host site to apply their knowledge and skills as part of the patient care team. Duties will be assigned according to students’ skill level and the work needs of the host site. Students will participate in three additional seminars in which students reflect on experiences. Students will be expected to expand their skill set during the sequence.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Identify institutional expectations, policies and procedures for students and clinical sites including behavioral and safety issues.
- CLO#2: Demonstrate effective verbal, nonverbal, and written communication principles and skills required in the workplace and clinical setting.
- CLO#3: Perform the basic functions of medical assistants in a primary, specialty, and/or urgent care setting.
- CLO#4: Evaluate goals based on instructor and preceptor feedback. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#5: Develop professional skills to meet industry demands based on the Rogue Valley Employability Rubric standards
- CLO#6: Adhere to facility and medical assistant program policies.

Length of Course: CWE PORTION: A required state minimum of (150) and a standard of (165) CWE hours per term, not to exceed (180) CWE hours per term. CWE SEMINAR PORTION: A required state minimum of (20) and a standard of (22) CWE Seminar hours per term, not to exceed (24) CWE Seminar hours.
