Ospreys to Raiders Transfer Program

Associate of Science

About the Program

The Associate of Science degree is based on a signed articulation agreement with Southern Oregon University (SOU). It has been developed in close cooperation with the Healthcare Administration faculty at SOU. The SOU departments of psychology, sociology/anthropology, communications, and business offer an interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree program providing a foundation in healthcare systems, terminology, ethics and safety, data management and basic statistics, plus the communication and cultural competency skills necessary to succeed in today’s healthcare environment.  RCC’s Associate of Science (AS) degree is articulated with SOU’s Healthcare Administration program.

Students should contact the SOU Healthcare Administration program early in the first year of the AS program to be advised about additional requirements and procedures for admission to the school or program.

Students should be aware that if they transfer before completing this degree, courses will be evaluated individually toward the general education requirements in effect at SOU.

Program Learning Outcomes

The curriculum in RCC courses is derived from a set of identified learning outcomes that are relevant to the discipline. Program learning outcomes for the Healthcare Administration Transfer to Southern Oregon University are:

Develop a comprehensive understanding of fundamental accounting concepts.

Use Structured Query Language (SQL) to create database structures and manipulate data.

Utilize complex formulas and demonstrate advanced statistical analysis using Excel functions.

Demonstrate active listening, reflecting, and rephrasing skills when communicating with patients, community partners and medical personnel.

Demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to diversity in healthcare delivery, recognizing and addressing the unique needs and preferences of diverse patient populations.

Entry Requirements

Students must complete the Placement Process to determine skill level and readiness in math and writing. As part of their training program, students must begin with the courses within their skill level as determined through the Placement Process.

Prospective students should be aware of requirements of healthcare organizations prior to considering healthcare administration as a career choice, for example criminal history background checks or drug screenings. These requirements may vary by organization and geographic region; the inability to pass such requirements may preclude employment in certain organizations.

Advanced Standing

Coursework from accredited colleges and universities will be accepted in accordance with college policies and the department coordinator’s approval. To ensure that coursework is current, program courses over seven years old must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate department chair before being accepted toward core requirements.

Graduation Requirements

Students must complete courses with at least a “C-” or better grade and they must have at least a 2.0 program GPA. Certain courses are graded on a pass/no pass basis. A grade of “P” for these courses indicates a student earned the equivalent of a “C-” or better grade. This guide lays out an optimal path to graduate. Where zero credits are listed in the prerequisites, students may place into a higher level(s) based on designated placement. Note: some prerequisites may be required for graduation.
