Course Description: Offers an effective method for reducing stress and creating a relaxation response within the body and mind. Through a series of controlled exercises, stretching, and breathing techniques, this course will give students firsthand experience with the concepts and applications of being responsible for improving health. Yoga enhances flexibility, strength, coordination, lung capacity and balance through a system of gentle movements: various yoga poses (asanas), alignment principles, and breathing techniques (pranayamas). Students of all ability levels and all faith systems are welcome. Course is repeatable for additional credit.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Demonstrate proper and safe exercising.
- CLO#2: Demonstrate improvement in the targeted areas of greater comfort, effectiveness, and ease of yoga poses. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#3: Demonstrate proficiency of various yoga poses and principles.
- CLO#4: Demonstrate leadership by facilitating small group yoga lesson.
Typical Required and Recommended Equipment and Materials: Advised to bring a personal yoga mat, and to wear loose, comfortable clothing.
