ECE 125A - Early Childhood Development - A 1 Credit(s)
Course Description: Provides an overview of child development from conception through eight years of age. The focus is on studying and observing the physical, cognitive, communication, emotional, and social aspects of the individual during this period. This course includes the Child Development Associate (CDA) subject areas of child growth and development and observation, as well as the functional areas of physical, cognitive, communication, and creative. Child observations are required. This course is part one of a three-course series (A, B, and C).
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Examine the developmental stages of young children 0-8 years: prenatal, infant, toddler, preschool, and primary.
- CLO#2: Describe the domains of development: physical.
- CLO#3: Identify multiple influences on development and learning. (ILO: Critical Thinking)
- CLO#4: Compare elements of objective versus subjective observation.
Typical Required and Recommended Equipment and Materials: Notebook and pen or pencil for taking notes, access to Blackboard via computer.
