BI 100SB - Biology of Human Body Systems 3 Credit(s)
Course Description: Presents a rational and systematic observation of the human body and allows identification, description and discussion to create a basic understanding for students interested in the Basic Health Care certificate or anyone interested in a basic understanding of how the human body works. Topics include body organization, basic chemistry, cell structure and function, tissues, and an overview of the major body systems.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- CLO#1: Explain the nature and process of scientific inquiry and apply these concepts to human biology.
- CLO#2: Describe human biological diversity and the relationship between humans and other living organisms.
- CLO#3: Connect basic chemical and cellular principles to the organization and function of the human body systems.
- CLO#4: Explain how homeostatic mechanisms maintain stability within and among the body systems.
- CLO#5: Explain the relationship between anatomical structure and physiological function in the human body systems.
- CLO#6: Relate the levels of biological organization - from molecules to organ systems - to the integrated functions of the human body.
- CLO#7: Describe the interdependence of human body systems in maintaining homeostasis.
- CLO#8: Apply concepts of human anatomy and physiology to real-world contexts, including clinical, public health, or societal issues. (ILO: Information Literacy)
