High School CTE Teaching License Preparation

Certificate

About the Program

The CTE Teacher Licensure Certificate program provides students with the six courses required by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) to teach Career and Technical Education courses at a sponsoring school district. Participants in this program learn foundational skills in classroom management, curriculum development, student assessment, culturally responsive instruction, and management of an equitable CTE program of study.

Program Learning Outcomes

The curriculum in RCC courses is derived from a set of identified learning outcomes that are relevant to the discipline. Program learning outcomes for the High School CTE Teaching License Preparation Certificate are:

Demonstrate knowledge of the elements of CTE programs and how they meet unique school district needs.

Explain examples of CTE programs of study in Oregon.

Describe the elements of CTE programs and explain how these programs meet unique school district needs.

Apply culturally responsive teaching practices that integrate principles of social justice to promote equitable learning opportunities.

Entry Requirements

To teach in an Oregon state approved CTE program, the instructor must have an appropriate CTE license and/or endorsement that is specific to the program career area.

Advanced Standing

Coursework from accredited colleges and universities will be accepted in accordance with college registration policies. In order to ensure that coursework is current, program courses over 10 years old must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate department before being accepted.

Completion Requirements

Students must complete courses with at least a “C-” or better grade and they must have at least a 2.0 program GPA. Certain courses are graded on a pass/no pass basis. A grade of “P” for these courses indicates a student earned the equivalent of a “C-” or better grade. This guide lays out an optimal path to graduate. Where zero credits are listed in the prerequisites, students may place into a higher level(s) based on designated placement. Note: some prerequisites may be required for graduation. Please consult an advisor with any program completion questions.
